AUSTRALIAN SAILING NSW CLUBS CONFERENCE

Published Wed 11 May 2022

Dave Jordan reports

  • A majority of key stakeholders from AS were present.
  • There were over 100 people in attendance from many of the 107 Sailing Clubs in NSW.
  • FYI, there are >350 Sailing Clubs across Australia as well as some 150 Discover Sailing Centres.
  • AS President Daniel Belcher provided an overview of the strategic plan 2022 -2032, which has three focus areas; support, grow, win. In reverse order below because it's easier to explain:
    • Win AS receives 16% of its revenue from Clubs but none of that goes to the High Performance part of the program. The remainder of AS revenue is from Government and Sponsorship.
    • Grow is a major part of the strategy and much of the agenda was driven by membership aspects, including presentation/discussion on RRS46/SailPass,
    • Support There was a good session on insurance; there is a major review due to complete shortly and it is understood things will be simplified but in the end, the fundamentals remain much the same - Clubs, volunteers, officials et al are all covered as they are now. The AS coverage is for on water or prime task ashore (sailing education in classroom etc) and it is designed to provide a fundamental immediate medical etc relief Lots of support and some dissatisfaction for Rev Sport and the wider IT/communications framework. AS provided an update on Safety, encouraging reporting of incidents
