COMMODORE'S MESSAGE JANUARY 2021

Dear RANSA Members,

Welcome to 2021, and following our positive Christmas message a lot of things have happened at RANSA, so some updates.

Navy Bear Café. We said we would be listening closely to Members about the integration of Navy Bear Cafe into our club life - and catering for the last two Twilights has led to an outpouring of dissatisfaction! However, Navy Bear believe there was some confusion about the catering needs and assumed the numbers would be a lot less. Any misconceptions are now resolved for this Friday and a more comprehensive menu will be offered

Roger and Nick will advise the bookings process once restrictions are eased, and we encourage Members to support Navy Bear this Friday and sample the new menu- remember to ask for your member’s 15% discount!

Volunteers and House Matters.

Chris Nixon, our Rear Commodore has been covering numerous house duties in recent months with Café & other items. Chris also has some family health issues, and our thoughts are with Janet (Life Member) in these difficult times.

To assist, Chris has now nominated Ysmael Nieto as his Assistant. Ysmael will primarily work with Chris and the Office in coordinating past and present volunteers to assist in many areas, including the RANSA Regatta. If you have some time on 14th Feb to assist onshore on Regatta day please let the office know. Thank you to Ysmael for playing this key role at this important time for the Club.

Integrated Member Electronic Access, Card and Bar systems

Some may know Secretary Cam Wayland has been working on a card system for Members which will integrate with so many elements of club life. Final demonstrations take place next week and we hope the system will be available in the very near future for all our Members.

Also, with Cam’s revitalisation of the Website and Member database, we now also have great data and methods of communication with our Members. Information will be available for Ysmael to draw on the many skills within our Membership who are willing to assist and volunteer in our Club activities. (Albeit my categorisation with handyman abilities has been questioned!).

Member Priority within RANSA

There is ongoing discussion regarding the integration of the Café into our Club, and Members and awareness of our Naval stewardship are absolute priority.

The Member Only Café booking system has been tested and IS NOW available via our website for reservations at Navy Bear. Go to the Venue Hire and Catering top menu on the webiste  and you will find the link to the booking system, or just click here to take you there. We encourage Members to utilise the system if it suits to make a meal booking as opposed to casual eating.

Use of the Whaler Bar for Members outside of Bar opening times is also a priority. There are still issues to resolve regarding keying and security, and it will be useful to integrate with the new card keying system. In the meantime, we will initiate some interim measures to make the area available so keep an eye on notices within the club to access the area if desired.
I know Roger, Nick and Cam will keep communicating directly and via the Website, Facebook etc.

As we all become accustomed to living within a world of changing COVID parameters, we wish all the very best for 2021, and great Sailing.
