RANSA FRIDAY TWILIGHT SERIES WRAPS UP FOR ANOTHER YEAR

Published Sun 27 Mar 2022

Last Friday saw the last race of the 21/22 twilight season, with a fleet of 35 starters - highly commendable for an early start, rain affected, non point score race! The season final was celebrated back at the Club in fine style as Grainne, Cesca, Kathleen and the Scarlet O’Hara team dressed both themselves and the Club for a belated St Patricks day, adding Guinness and Irish coffee to the usual bar offerings for a party that went on to 11.30!

Entries for the season overall totalled over 90 including casuals, with regular fleets in the high 40s for the scheduled 21 race series, 4 of which were abandoned owing Covid at the start of the season and two further races abandoned owing to inclement weather.

Div 1: Mitch Gordon’s The Goat won with 41 points, with Jason King's consistent line honours winner Sol y Mar 2nd on 48, beating Yputakiteup by half a point!

Calypso Magic and Shine On were not far behind on 50 and 51 points, meaning that only 3 points separated 2nd and 5th places - great racing - and handicapping!

Div 1S: The clear winner was Fortune of War, meaning that Adrian Gruzman once again wins the Adrian Gruzman Trophy!

Div 2: Tony Hirst’s Silky won, often sharing line honours with second place Michael Blaxell’s Highway Patrol: Rhythm and Valentis tied on 50 points with Rhythm taking 3rd place on count back

Div 3: The beautiful gaff rigged Reverie took first place, with Sailability’s speedy Salvo Intrepid in 2nd and Sylvara 3rd

Consistency is clearly the key with all of the placegetters turning up for all or nearly all of the races, and it was good to have most of you back at RANSA each week for post race celebrations.

Special thanks go to start boat regular volunteers RO John Allan and Official Gaye Rosen, and our thanks to you all for joining us for another great series, especially to those who provided start boat and bar volunteers to help make it all possible.

The RANSA Winter Wednesday series starts on 4th May and the Notice of Race and entry details will be published shortly: for those who can’t make Wednesday afternoons, we look forward to seeing you again next October!
